The 4xe is rated for 25 miles of electric-only travel and 56 MPGe. It also delivers 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, with a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. For rough roads, there's up to 10.9 inches of ground clearance and 24 inches of water fording capability. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is a bona fide off-road vehicle with plug-in hybrid respect for the environment.
We realize, of course, that most people who buy the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe won't be hardcore off-roaders. They will be people who want the space and versatility of an SUV that happens to also offer rough terrain capabilities that make it ideal for Norther California adventuring, such as ski and snowboard trips to the Sierra Nevadas. Jeep has introduced a Trailhawk model that is available only on the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. Per Jeep, the Trailhawk edition conquered the legendary Rubicon Trail near Lake Tahoe under all-electric power using Electric mode; that's impressive.
The Trailhawk boosts off-road capabilities with Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system and a two-speed transfer case and 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. It also has a rear electronic limited slip differential and Selec-Terrain traction management system.
Visually, the Trailhawk edition is distinguished by blue tow hooks, blue-accented 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and blue-and-black matte "Trailhawk" hood decal.
Tough and Techie
For longtime Jeep fanatics, it's hard to grasp the evolution from the bare-bones, rough-and-tumble days of the first Jeeps to today's highly capable, yet extremely comfortable Jeep SUV's. The 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe pushes that gap even further.
